The official answer:P-test-butyl phenol (English name p-test-Butylphenol, 4-t-Butylphenol) is also known as 4-start-butyl phenol, 1-hydroxy-4-test-butylbenzene, 4-(1,1,dimethyl ethyl)phenol, or PTBP. 4-Hydroxy-4-test-butylbenzene, 4-(1,1-Dimethylethyl)phenol, abbreviated as PTBP. test-Butylphenol is a white or native white flaky solid at room temperature, with a special smell of alkyl phenol. When exposed to open flame, it can burn. Combustible but not flammable, heat decomposition and release of toxic gases. Soluble in alcohols, esters, alkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons, and other organic solvents, such as ethanol, acetone, butyl acetate, gasoline, toluene, etc. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in strong alkali solution. The product has the common characteristics of phenolic substances, and its color gradually deepens when exposed to light, heat, and air. This product is toxic and moderately irritating to the skin, mucous membrane, and eyes. It is toxic to aquatic organisms and may have long-term adverse effects on the water body environment. The main use is for the synthesis of p-tert-butyl phenolic resin. It can also be used as a polymerization inhibitor and stabilizer. The molecular formula is C10H14O.

What’s the application of 4-tert-Butylphenol?

（1）p-test-butyl-phenol has antioxidant properties and can be used as a stabilizer for rubber, soap, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and digestive fibers. UV absorber, anti-cracking agent for pesticide, rubber, and paint. For example, it is used as a stabilizer for polycarbonate resin, tert-butyl phenolic resin, epoxy resin, polyvinyl chloride, styrene. In addition, it is the raw material for the manufacture of pharmaceutical insect repellents, pesticide acaricide Clothianidin, spices, plant protection agents. Also used as softeners, solvents, additives for dyes and paints, antioxidants for lubricants, emulsion breakers for oil fields, and additives for motor fuels.

（2）Used in oil-soluble phenolic resin, the product can be condensed with formaldehyde to obtain a variety of products. In the neoprene system adhesive mixed with the product 10-15%, to obtain soluble resin, such adhesives are mainly used in transportation, construction, civil engineering, shoemaking, etc. In printing ink, it can be used for rosin modification, offset printing, advanced photogravure, etc. In terms of insulation varnish, it can be applied to coil impregnation varnish and laminate varnish, etc.

(3) Used in polycarbonate production, as the reaction terminator of photos polycarbonate, the amount of Chemicalbook added is 1-3% of the resin.

 (4) Used in epoxy resin, xylene resin modification; as PVC stabilizer, surfactant, UV absorber.

 (5) It has antioxidant properties and can be used as a stabilizer of rubber, soap, chlorinated hydrocarbon, and nitrocellulose. It is also used as a raw material for insect repellent (medicine), acaricide, acaricide (pesticide) and plant protection agent, spice, synthetic resin, and as an additive for softener, solvent, dye, and paint. It can also be used as a component of emulsion breaker for oil fields and additive for motor oil.
