Chlorhexidine is a cationic surface-active preservative with broad-spectrum antibacterial action. Its mechanism of action is to alter the permeability of bacterial cell membranes. It is a disinfecting and antiseptic agent. It is highly sensitive to certain Staphylococci, Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus salivarius, Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, and Propionibacterium anaerobic, moderately sensitive to Streptococcus Haemophilus and hypersensitive to Streptococcus pyogenes, Pseudomonas spp, Klebsiella Chemicalbook spp, and Gram-negative cocci (e.g. Weyongococcus spp). Its antibacterial effect on gram-positive and negative bacteria is stronger than that of disinfectants such as benzalkonium bromide. It remains effective in the presence of serum, blood, etc. The mechanism of action of this product is adsorption on the permeation barrier of the bacterial plasma membrane, causing the cell contents to leak out and exert an antibacterial effect. It has an antibacterial effect at low concentrations and a bactericidal effect at high concentrations. It is used as a disinfectant and antiseptic, with a strong broad-spectrum antibacterial and bactericidal effect, effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Used externally for hand and skin disinfection and to rinse wounds.
