What is Dimefluthrin?

The official answer:Tetramethrin (English name: Tetramethylfluthrin, English full name: (2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-(methoxymethyl)phenyl)methyl 2,2,3,3-tetramethylcyclopropanecarboxylate (tetramethylfluthrin) [1], is an organic compound composed of C, H, F, and O. It has a strong tactile effect and has an excellent knockdown effect on mosquitoes, and is often used to make pesticides and insecticides.

What’s the application of Dimefluthrin?

Tefluthrin has a strong touch-killing effect and an excellent knockdown effect on mosquitoes. Its insecticidal toxicity is more than 17 times that of dextro-allethrin, which can effectively control mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, and whiteflies.

Tefluthrin literature reports method is mainly obtained by combining 2,2,3,3-tetramethylcyclopropanecarbonyl chloride with 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-methoxymethylbenzyl alcohol. Methyl benzyl alcohol is also a key intermediate of cypermethrin, methoxybenzothrin, tetrafluoromethane, etc.

Using 1,2,4,5-tetrafluorobenzene as raw material, the intermediate 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-methoxymethylbenzyl alcohol is obtained through methylation, carbonylation, esterification, bromination, etherification, and reduction, etc. The route is only applicable to laboratory preparation

Dimethyl tetrafluoroterephthalate is used as the starting material, and the key intermediate 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-methoxymethylbenzyl alcohol is obtained by reduction and etherification, and this intermediate is then condensed with 2,2,3,3-tetramethylcyclopropanecarbonyl chloride to obtain tetrafluoroether pyrethrin. The process is simple and easy to control, and currently, there are pesticide manufacturers in China using this method for mass production.
