Fire extinguishing agents

PERFLUORO(2-METHYL-3-PENTANONE) is a liquid at room temperature. As its heat of evaporation is only 1/25th that of water and its vapor pressure is 25 times that of water, these properties make it easy to vaporize and exist in a gaseous state, and it relies mainly on heat absorption to achieve its fire extinguishing effect. In terms of environmental protection, it is a veritable green fire extinguishing agent. As the fire extinguishing concentration of PFC is 4-6%, the safety margin is relatively high and it is safer for human beings when in use. PERFLUORO(2-METHYL-3-PENTANONE) is a liquid at room temperature and is not a hazardous substance, so it can be safely stored and transported under normal pressure in a wide range of temperatures using ordinary containers (including air transport), unlike other halon alternatives which require pressure containers for storage and transport, but its boiling point is 48-49°C. Its use as a fire extinguishing agent is still somewhat limited, and it is used as a replacement for halon 1211 fire extinguishers, or B Class B fire protection for full flooding systems and local application systems.

Cleaning agents

PERFLUORO(2-METHYL-3-PENTANONE) is used as a wet cleaning agent for steam reactors and steam reactor components, as well as for cleaning unwanted deposits accumulated in vapor phase reactors, etching dielectric or metallic materials in vapor phase reactors, and doping various materials in vapor phase reactors.

In practice, there are various liquid chemical agents for cleaning, usually including various hydrocarbons such as acetone or is acetone, and various fluorinated chemicals such as perfluorinated hydrocarbons and perfluorinated nitrogen substituted compounds. Water and hydrocarbons do not easily resolve residues from fluoropolymers, in addition, water requires a long drying time and hydrocarbons are flammable. Fluorinated compounds are very stable and have the potential to contribute to global warming and are difficult to capture or treat with gas scrubbers. PERFLUORO(2-METHYL-3-PENTANONE) overcomes these drawbacks of traditional cleaning agents and has a significant cleaning effect and low impact on global warming trends.

Solvents

Lubricants made from perfluoropolyethers can be applied as a coating to a substrate such as a magnetic medium. After the coating has dried, the surface of the substrate is covered with a thin, uniform lubricating film. PERFLUORO(2-METHYL-3-PENTANONE) dissolves various perfluoropolyether compounds.
