Description of Stannous sulfate

Tin(II) sulfate (SnSO4) is a chemical compound. It is a white solid that can absorb enough moisture from the air to dissolve in it, forming a solution
this property is known as deliquescence. It can be prepared by a displacement reaction between metallic tin and copper(II) sulfate:
Sn (s) + CuSO4 (aq) → Cu (s) + SnSO4 (aq)
Tin(II) sulfate is a convenient source of tin(II) ions uncontaminated by tin(IV) species.

What is Stannous sulfate?

Part I: Introduction

With the progress of science and technology and the development of society, chemical products have invariably permeated our daily lives, in medicine, food, cosmetics, electronics, industry, and other areas, becoming an essential part of our lives. One such product is Stannous sulfate which has developed particularly rapidly in recent years. Do you know about Stannous sulfate?

The official answer: Stannous sulfate, molecular formula SnSO4, molecular weight 214.75, is a white or light yellow crystalline powder, soluble in water and dilute sulfuric acid, aqueous solution decomposes rapidly. The main use is for tin plating or chemical reagents, such as alloy, tinplate, cylinder piston, steel wire, and another acid plating, bright tin plating of electronic devices, etc. In addition, also used for aluminum alloy products coating oxidation coloring, printing, and dyeing industry as a mordant, organic solution of hydrogen peroxide remover, etc.

What’s the application of Stannous sulfate?

Stannous sulfate can be produced by reacting metallic tin with dilute sulfuric acid.
Sn+H2SO4=SnSO4+H2
Add 120 g of tin grains to 130 mL of 9 mol/L sulfuric acids and boil for several hours until the tin is no longer dissolved. The solution was poured out and heated with about 250 ml of water to extract the remaining SnSO4. The two solutions were combined and filtered. The solution was evaporated under a vacuum until a paste was formed and then cooled, and the resulting salt was separated using a Brønsted funnel and washed twice with ethanol, and then dried.
It is mainly used for tin plating in the electroplating industry, oxidation coloring of aluminum alloy surface, mordant in the printing and dyeing industry, hydrogen peroxide remover, etc.
