Thiosalicylic acid is an organosulfur compound containing carboxyl and sulfhydryl functional groups. Its molecular formula is C6H4(SH)(CO2H). it is a yellow solid that is slightly soluble in water, ethanol and diethyl ether, and alkanes, but more soluble in DMSO.

Used in the production of sulfur indigo dyes, also used as a reagent for the analysis of iron. It is used in the electroplating industry for the anticorrosive treatment of ferrous metals, and as a surface treatment agent for metals, and as a coloring agent in the ceramic industry.

What’s the application of Thiosalicylic acid?

Yellow leafy (glacial acetic acid) or needle-like (ethanol aqueous solution) crystals. Melting point 165.5℃, 158℃ Softening, can sublimate, easily soluble in acetic acid, slightly soluble in hot water, get dithiosalicylic acid when meet air. Intermediate of thimerosal, also intermediate of thioglycolic dye, reagent for iron determination. It is mainly used in pesticide, dyestuff, rubber industry, also used in pharmaceutical products such as methyl salicylate, or used in the electroplating industry for anti-corrosion treatment of ferrous metal, also used as metal surface treatment agent, used as a coloring agent in the ceramic industry. Determination of iron reagent, liquid chromatography determination of ethyl mercury thiosalicylate and ethyl mercury. Sulfur indigo dye preparation. Used as organic synthesis, pharmaceutical, and dye intermediates. Produced by reacting halogenated benzoic acid with thiosalicylate in the presence of a copper catalyst.
