The official answer: Tributyl phosphate is an organic compound with the chemical formula C12H27O4P/(C4H9)3PO4, which is a colorless, irritating odor liquid. Mainly used as a solvent, it is also often used as a plasticizer for nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, chlorinated rubber and polyvinyl chloride, extractant for rare metals, etc., heat exchange medium. Because of its low surface tension and insoluble in water, it can be used as an industrial defoamer, effectively defoaming the film of formed foam in an unstable state and defoaming rapidly. It cannot be used in food/cosmetics.

What’s the application of Tributyl phosphate?

Uses: Used as gas chromatography stationary solution, the solvent of nitrocellulose and ethyl cellulose, plasticizer, rare earth metal separation agent, and organic synthesis intermediate

Use two: It has a better inhibiting effect on acrylates, methacrylates, acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, styrene, and butadiene, and its inhibiting performance is better than phenols.

Use III: Used as extractant of metal complexes, plasticizer of cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate, chlorinated rubber and polyvinyl chloride, the solvent of paints, inks, and adhesives

Use IV: Used as the main plasticizer of cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate, chlorinated rubber, and polyvinyl chloride, also commonly used as the solvent of paint, adhesive, and ink, defoamer, anti-static agent, extractant of rare earth elements. The LD50 for rats is 3000mg/kg.

Use V: Solvent for nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate, defoamer, heat exchange medium, plasticizer, extractant. Gas chromatography stationary solution (maximum use temperature 120 ℃, the solvent is ether) extraction of cobalt, iridium, manganese, molybdenum, palladium, rhodium, nickel, uranium, and tungsten, colorimetric determination of molybdenum. Organic synthesis.
