The official answer: Azo diisobutyronitrile, abbreviated as AIBN, with chemical formula C8H12N4, is soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, ethyl ether, acetone, petroleum ether and aniline.

It decomposes with heat to release nitrogen gas and organic cyanide containing -(CH2)2-C-CN group. Decompose slowly at room temperature, decompose sharply at 100℃. Can cause explosion and fire, flammable. Toxic. The release of organic cyanide is more harmful to human body.

What’s the application of 2,2'-Azobis(2-methylpropionitrile)?

It is used as an initiator in the polymerization of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile and other monomers, and also as a foaming agent for rubber and plastics, with a dosage of 10% to 20%.

 

This product can also be used as vulcanizing agent, pesticide and intermediate of organic synthesis. It is a highly toxic substance, oral LD5017.2~25mg/kg in mice, and the organic cyanide released by thermal decomposition is more toxic to human body.

It is used as a polymerization initiator for polychlorochemicalbook ethylene, polyvinyl alcohol, polystyrene, polyacrylonitrile and other monomers.

Used as initiator for polymerization of organic synthesis intermediates

Used as initiator of polymerization or co-polymerization of vinyl acetate and acrylate. It can also be used as a foaming agent.

Use as a catalyst in the embedding of methacrylic acid esters in tissues. Initiator for polymers. Rubber, plastic, foaming agent. Polychloroethylene-based plastic initiator.
