Description of L-Aspartic acid
Aspartic acid (abbreviated as Asp or D; encoded by the codons [GAU and GAC]), also known as aspartate, is an α-amino acid that is used in the biosynthesis of proteins. It contains an α-amino group (which is in the protonated −NH+ 3 form under biological conditions), an α-carboxylic acid group (which is in the deprotonated −COO− form under biological conditions), and a side chain CH2COOH. Under physiological conditions in proteins the sidechain usually occurs as the negatively charged aspartate form, −COO−. It is semi-essential in humans, meaning the body can synthesize it from oxaloacetate.
In proteins aspartate sidechains are often hydrogen bonded, often as asx turns or asx motifs, which often occur at the N-termini of alpha helices.
Asp’s L-isomer is one of the 23 proteinogenic amino acids, i.e., the building blocks of proteins. Asp (and glutamic acid) is classified as acidic, with a pKa of 3.9, however in a peptide this is highly dependent on the local environment (as with all amino acids), and could be as high as 14. Asp is pervasive in biosynthesis.
L-aspartic acid is one of the two main ingredients of the artificial sweetener aspartame, along with L-phenylalanine.

What is L-Aspartic acid?
With the progress of science and technology and the development of society, chemical products have invariably permeated our daily lives, in medicine, food, cosmetics, electronics, industry, and other areas, becoming an essential part of our lives. One such product is L-Aspartic acid which has developed particularly rapidly in recent years. Do you know about L-Aspartic acid?
The official answer:Aspartic acid, also known as aspartic acid, is an alpha-amino acid and the levorotatory isomer of aspartic acid is one of the 20 protein amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, whose codons are GAU and GAC. It is an acidic amino acid along with glutamic acid. Aspartic acid is commonly found in biosynthesis. It is a precursor for the synthesis of amino acids such as lysine, threonine, isoleucine, methionine and purine and pyrimidine bases in living organisms. It acts as a carrier of K+ and Mg2+ ions to deliver electrolytes to the myocardium, thereby improving myocardial contractile function while reducing oxygen consumption and having a protective effect on the myocardium in the event of hypoxia from impaired coronary circulation. It participates in the ornithine cycle, promotes the production of urea from ammonia and carbon dioxide, reduces the amount of nitrogen and carbon dioxide in the blood, enhances liver function and eliminates fatigue.
What’s the application of L-Aspartic acid?
Used as electrolyte supplement for amino acid infusion, inorganic ion supplements such as potassium and calcium, fatigue recovery agent, etc. Potassium magnesium aspartate injection or oral solution for cardiac arrhythmias and premature beats, tachycardia, hypokalemia, hypomagnesia, heart failure, myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver and other disorders caused by cardiac glycoside poisoning. Low toxicity. This product should not be injected without dilution. Use with caution in renal insufficiency and atrioventricular block.
